My name is Decado the Black.
My time in Oberin began, as with many others, in Lerilin. I spent some years there, learning the Wizard's Art, gaining information whenever possible about the outside world, and living as honourably as I was able.
After a time, I decided to travel, to familiarise myself with the world I lived in more fully than any rumour-monger's whispered word could assuage. I saw the stoic loyalty and friendliness exemplified by Mirithians, the social and political skills demonstrated by those in Andris, even the honest labour and respect of nature shown in Duldrus. All fascinated me.
And then came Marali. I walked through the forests with a sense of excitement and dread elicited by the knowledge that at any moment you could find yourself in a fight for your life with marauding trolls or a stray Gaper. This pleased the darker side of my nature, but also angered me. The harsh beauty of the Maralian landscape was marred by the sheer number of despicable creatures who would do anyone harm, be they criminal or innocent. After spending some time in Marali, and gaining the sense of place I had lacked in Lerlin, I knew that I ahd found my home, and, not only that, but also my calling.
When news came from the Dark Ranger, Valerquez, that the Shadow Clan had risen, and its sole charge would be the defense of Marali, I was overjoyed, and applied immediately upon finding out about it. However, as with all good things, the Shadow Clan passed.
The Maralian Vanguard is now clearly charged with the same duty, and I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't attempt to help fulfill that duty to the best of my ability. I am able to defend myself and others when needs be as a Wizard, as is my brother Durzian, to a somewhat lesser extent due to his wandering nature. It is true, I have been absent for a long time, dealing with troubles of my own, but I am back for good now. I will labour tirelessly to better Marali's future, to help others discover its wonders, and to forge stronger alliances with the other cities. Any powers I have will be Marali's, and any strenght I have will, again, belong to Marali and those who also wish to protect and better its future.
You know I speak the truth, and if you do not, I will work to prove to you that it is so.
Yours,
Decado the Black
